So many questions!
If he is ‘the dreamer’, does that mean he’s also on earth? And if so, where is his body on earth? Where can he hide such a huge body?
What does he eat? Who brings him food, so he can stay hidden? (I geuss such a huge person doesn’t want to be known, so someone has to help him somehow)
I guess he’s like 5m high (assuming Dan is like 1,8m high)
Where comes the blue light from? What do those bindings do? How come he’s floating? What is the vessel made of?
What is his age? How come he’s so big? Why is he so poorly dressed?
Why does the nightmarerealm listen to him?
We’ll have to wait and see i guess ๐ I love this comic!
Fascinating. This begins to suggest the Nightmare Realm may be where the Dreamer resides as a defense against being awakened – for what will happen if he wakes?
This seems like it could be the RARG scenario, as a worst-case. (You can see RARG here, once you get past the 2 and half minute intro by James Earl Jones. The Big Reveal comes at 7 and a half minutes in! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUApquYVH0E ) For those who don’t have time to watch, try this:
Very relevant questions. My guess is that he is some kind of revered prisoner, possibly a source of inspiration to the Nightmare Realm. He is definitely not in charge, and looks malnutritioned, unkempt, unhappy, and *very* old. Possibly they are having problems keeping him alive, which may be the reason for the current unrest.
“None dare learn his secrets” – they must be horrible, indeed. His physical body is probably comatose, he may be in a state of permanent nightmares, and may indeed be the reason the Nightmare Realm exists at all (if nobody is having nightmares, would the Nightmare Realm cease to exist?).
What is Daniel’s plan? Kill The Dreamer? Wake him up? How does he even know about his existence?
No, we we had a small glimpse of Merlin sleeping inside a tree on Earth, and he looked very different. My guess is that The Dreamer is much older than Merlin, possibly from Biblical times.
I’m so used to the Final Fantasy multi armed version of Gilgamesh that I’m kind of disappointed. Of course that could change once he starts talking ๐
Was it ever stated anywhere that the dreamer IS Gilgamesh? Lots of people claim this, but I can’t remember having seen this anywhere. (It’s been a while since I re-read the whole thing, though.)
I was thinking that it would have been Merlin and that his dreamself was locked away so that no one in Dreamland would know that there were 2 adults present, and not just the King. It was mentioned above that Merlin on Earth looked different than this, however what if something went wrong in how Merlin breached Dreamland and the result is what you see.
Very interesting…I am reminded of the Frost Giants of Jotunheim of Norse mythology. Given how Dreamland has crossed into the mythos of other cultures (Tigran Aztecs, Camelot, etc.), it might very well be possible to have another culture crossover as well. Though to be fair, his appearance could simply be a magnified image that has been projected into that space making him appear larger than he actually is.
At the very least, it appears as though he is in a stasis tank (usually filled with a type of saline solution), with the tubes connected to his torso and appendages providing him with the needed nutrients to sustain his body. If he is in stasis, that may be where he earns the name of the dreamer: while his body is in a chronic sleep state, he may be able to project his consciousness continually into Abaddon, possibly even into Dreamland itself.
Regardless, now that Dreamland has once again resumed with the new content, I am excited to learn how the story progresses and eventually concludes. Well done to both Tracey and Scott on bringing to life such a vibrant and compelling story, and thank you for sharing this world with us.
Looking especially at the nose and bone structure of the head, as well as the size, I’m not at all sure he’s supposed to be human. He may not be emaciated by the standards of his… species? Do techno-magical-mythical beings have species?
I expected Gilgamesh to big, but not that big.
*to be big
Wooooh he is a giant!
What magic keeps him alive?

Wasn’t merlin in an eternal sleep as wellโฆ what ifโฆ?
Looks very much like a prisoner to me. I wonder what his response would be were someone to free him.
It almost looks like a projection, like on a movie screen.

Aliens! Definitely Aliens ๐
OKay, I’ll admit it. Not what I was expecting. For which I am grateful. Carry on.
Yeah, he looks to be both sustained and restrained by those attachments. And he doesn’t look altogether happy.

“Ignore the man behind that curtain!”
I have the feeling if he wakes up, Dreamland will cease to exist. There was a book series that was similar to this. It was called “Otherland”.

Some people are saying Gilgamesh, but what if the Dreamer is the FIRST dreamer? Could this be Adam? (doesn’t explain the giganticness though).
I suspect that his Earth body is smaller. Just as Dan isn’t this powerful on Earth.

So that’s the Dreamer, I wonder who he REALLY is?!?!?!?!?
I can’t recall either.

LOVE that series!

Ah well, time will tell ๐
I always wondered what happened to Gandalf after the movies…
Honestly, I think his name might be Morpheus. It could have inspired the Greek myth about the deity of the same name.
Ohhh, it’s one of THESE deals.
