You know. If Scott ever got bored, he could always just reuse this page and put new words in the bubbles. The set up of two characters leaning against a wall or banister is a classic comic strip staple. Alex could be making wisecracks about the latest political scandal or some new thing in pop culture.
Wow. No one caught on to the fact that Alex is trying to make Nastajia smile, failing horribly, but trying none the less. I can understand why he wants her to smile quite well my self. Because he simply loves her more than life its self. That and the fact that he figures she can only remain so serious for so long around him.
Seems like Nastazia is much more serious about what is going on and Alex thinks that he is starring in a movie.
Looking at theis faces – especially in the last panel – we can see an adult and a child.
Easy guess who is who…
A small thing to note, but I think Nastajia looks really pretty in the last panel. I’ve really noticed the subtle change in her makeup over the last few pages and I really like it.
So, out of curiosity, is Alexander like, officially King of Dreamland? Because it does seem like after that whole battle there would have been some sort of recognition for him – people would notice, or reverance him even. But it seems like when he was talking to Felicity, people were just passing him by, and that doesn’t fit with him being King. Even if he hasn’t been coronated yet or something ceremonial like that, I think he’s going to attract a bit more attention – and respect – from the Dreamlanders than he did before.
I mean, he just led all of Dreamland in this battle against Nicodemus, and came out victorious. I would expect the people would be looking to him now to take leadership, take control. The longer he doesn’t step up the more people are going to wonder if he is fit to rule, even if he is meant to.
I don’t see how making a reference to the way things work in movies makes Alex a child and Nastajia an adult. Heck, I make references to the way things happen in movies all the time (especially when I’m with a couple of girlfriends at night and we hear a weird noise…I will NOT go investigate that sound by myself, thank you!)…and I’d like to point out that I’m fully capable of being a mature adult. I just happened to learn some of my fears and skeptical points of view from watching films. π
Well, the Dreamlanders have just gotten over a period of living under a ruler who expected to be treated overly “kingly”, so they might just be enjoying the fact that Alex doesn’t seem to expect special treatment. Besides, even if you revered someone, it would be rude to interfere with a conversation that was already begun just to bow and say “your majesty” like a proper peon. π
Just wanted to say that I like how in the third panel Nastajia’s hair falls on both sides of her shoulders when she leans over the railing. Probably not the first time her hair has been illustrated doing that, but it doesn’t happen often. I did think it a little odd that her hair went right back behind her shoulders by the next panel though. Hair that long would stay where it is unless moved…I guess she could have moved it though between panels. π Downside to dealing in a comic instead of moving animation. π
Those steps in the first 2 panels behind Alex and Staj look… *flat*. Like, paper thin flat. Not sure if the rendering process forgot something in the 3D render or what. The have nice shadows and such on the face of them to make them look good, but they need to have another dimension added to them on the left hand side of them to they look three dimensional. As always, love the story and the art, Scott. You’re doing an amazing job with the webcomic. Thanks for sharing a wonderful story with all of us.
Nicely done. In the industry, this is called “Hanging a lantern” (whenever a plot point is absurdly obvious and a character calls attention to exactly what the audience is thinking).
I’ve never before commented before, so I thought I’d finally do something to join in a little! I have to say, the last two panels on this one = priceless! I love Alex’s expressions there. Very well done *claps*
A few more factors: ever since Alex returned he’s been King designate. That hasn’t particularly changed since winning a battle.
Nastajia is no commoner herself: she’s Princess and Regent of the Elves. It gives her a certain social equality with Dan–not even considering that she knew him back when he was just another snot-nosed kid showing up in his dreams.
And then there’s the fact that, as Kiwi called it, they’re in love, and have even kissed. Not too many romances would survive if one had to call the other one “your majesty” outside of formal occasions. And this hardly is a formal occasion.
Well, as someone who does period reenactments I can tell you that especially in Ren/Medieval societies where there is royalty, even if you’re just passing them in the streets you show them proper reverence – you bow or curtsy. You don’t stop to talk to them, but if they are in your line of vision at all, you do bow, even if they can’t see you. It’s always bothered me a little because bmonk is right – Nastajia is a princess too, and I imagine most of the dreamlanders know that. It seems odd for them to just be standing in the street without anyone paying them mind – they are both some form of royalty. Just an observation though.
Nick Rivers: I’m pleased to meet you. My name’s Nick.
Hillary Flammond: Nick? What does that mean?
Nick Rivers: Oh, nothing. My dad thought of it while he was shaving.
I am hoping for “fueled by the nightmare realm, undead Nicodemus.”
Mostly because giving him a dracolich angle for the final battle would just be stepping up the difficulty level.
Though making an undead Nicodemus model would probably cost Scott elebenty babillion dollars β so look at more adverts people! I want an undead dragon!
That has bothered me as well. But I just figured that people may not have recognized them. In a land/time before TV, monarch recognition was not that easy, that’s how kings manage to go out and see peasant lives without being noticed. But then again, they’re dressed weirdly, Nastajia was involved in rallying troops, and Alex is a grown human in dreamland. Would have thought SOMEONE would notice, even if they don’t know who exactly they are…
These are some great storytelling scenes with Alex & Natajia, BTW. Great character moments. And some wonderful graphics work, to get the poses so natural. Great job on those.
lol! Nice job working in all the comments about nick not being dead! And first I think?
Awesome. Looking forward to when he comes back in some cliche way, just to go with the flow haha
Only he’ll come back with cybernetic parts: Bion-Nic!
10 minutes in the penalty box for than pun!
I’m highly amused by Alex’s “scheming villain” face. π
Wait! Nic might still be ALIVE?!?!?!? I would never have guessed this could have unfolded π

The possibilities are endless!
…. Okay. I’ll stop now.
Love the comic as it is.
I wonder.. Do dreamlanders even understand the concept of “movies” ?
Wow. No one caught on to the fact that Alex is trying to make Nastajia smile, failing horribly, but trying none the less. I can understand why he wants her to smile quite well my self. …yeah. We all know it should have been Cybernet-Nick instead…
…what? We shouldn’t make fun of his Prostet-Nicks?
Oh! I know! Maybe while down there, he can have a hand eaten by a crocodile! That way he can join the pirates from the beginning as…
Captain Nick.
…what? You expect another pun or something?
xD nice one
What is this…’MOO-VEE’ you speak of? o.O lol
Yeah, she really needs to learn how to smile more.
LOL, wonderful, Scott! π

This is what’s called “genera savvy”.

This is what happens when i type right after waking up :p Forgive my typos, please ^.^

Heh, I love the images of Alex all excited and childlike talking about movies…it’s good to see he’s still got some innocence after that fight.
I’ve never before commented before, so I thought I’d finally do something to join in a little! I have to say, the last two panels on this one = priceless! I love Alex’s expressions there. Very well done *claps*
Careful Alex, or Nastajia might start thinking you’re insane….
Alex has got it all figured out.
Good ol’ Alex. π I am really LOVING this page. Everything seems perfect with the art.
Absolutely! That panel right there WILL become an internet meme, just you wait! And no, it won’t have anyyyyyyyyything to do with me. )_)
Also, Nastajia gets major props for that ‘ahhh-huh???’ face in the last panel as well. ^_^

Inasmuch as I love each comic that comes out, I still have to say “I love today’s comic!”
Alex’ expressions as he discusses how Nic just has to be still alive are well done, and Nastajia’s face at the end is really nicely done.
Ahem, speaking ofβ¦
http://i.min.us/idPCUW.png
Yeah I ermβ¦ sorry Scott, couldn’t help myself. π
Nick asked Alex why he risked his life. Answer given suggests girlfriend is good kidnap target.
As Dan is the brains, Nicole is an obvious target.
Nicole wanting to come to dreamland, and Arthur’s making an item that allows “come to dreamland” that started the whole war seems important.
Thank you all!
I guess for me it’s “just another page”. So it’s extra special to hear it was extra enjoyable.
π

LOL!
LOVE IT (the page…not casserole)!
With the entire population of the human children of the world visiting constantly? It has to have come up at some point during the past 100 years!
Or maybe simply “you’re cute when you’re angry”?
The pier kind of… fell apart… remember?
don’t you mean the “pun-alty box”?
LOL. You reminded me of this from Top Secret:
Nick Rivers: I’m pleased to meet you. My name’s Nick.
Hillary Flammond: Nick? What does that mean?
Nick Rivers: Oh, nothing. My dad thought of it while he was shaving.
She knew Dan? Dan showed up in dreams? Since when?

I guess it’s my American upbringing. I have NO idea what to do around royalty.
I’ve never thought of it.

Alex, Alex, Alex. You are getting a little too genre savvy for your own good.
Sorry–delete “Dan” and insert “Alex” at each occurrence.
lol even alex admits he is still alive.
love alex’s face in the last two panels.

Rescued by the Nightmare Realm I have no doubt.

Heh, was about to post that very same link.
Ehehehehe awesome!
LOL
Nope, didn’t miss it, but not going to lie, this moment is one of those lose-lose situations on that bit.
Hey give the guy a break..it ain’t easy being cheesy(1)
Oh gosh, it’s turning into the Wapsi Square comments section…
Well then, we need to decide – do we share their pun jar, or do we get our own? Cause it needs some money put in by everyone present.
Also, she seems to be edging away from him in the forth panel.
Is this the same as ‘Lamp Shading?’
Alex finally broke the fourth wall.
Presumably, in this case the money in question would be Nick-els.
