I wanted to congratulate Andrea Doty for the winning donation for the “Alexander Beefcake” original print.
We’ll be getting the print out to you next week. Please email me if you’d like it personalized in any way.

“Where oh where are you hiding, Arthur?”
“Come out, come out, wherever you are!” 🙂
I have a suspicion that Nic did not check the tomb at any time after the sword was first taken by Alex years ago.
I wonder whether Nic was worried about the dead of Arthur or what it means.
for some reason, I still think that nic has no ulterior reason to search for arthur.no matter what he’s done since the disappearance of arthur’s spirit, arthur WAS a friend, even if at the end they had a major argument. maybe nic still had some hope that arthur would come back some day…
hmmm, seeing who the REAL baddies are, what are the chances nic is banding together with alex and co. at the end to fight the wraiths? 😀
I hope that the story won’t end with nic’s death, in any case (at least not for the reason of “he was evil, he deserved it”).
W00t! Finally caught up. This comic is amazing! =D
i suspect that only now has nicodemus truly allowed himself to consider arthur, to mourn him perhaps, to miss him. wonder if he really passed or what these guys from the nightmare realm did with him…
The sides of the pedestal turned sarcophagus are too thin I think. It does not look structurally sound to hold up a heavy, stone lid.

I think Nics huge hands might make it seem too thin
wowowow wait a sec. How deep is the sarcophagus, how long is the sword, and how deep was it planted in the stone? Looking at the graphic arts, I can only conclude that Arthur’s body was impaled by the sword when burried.
PS: and I agree that the walls of the sarcophagus are too thin.
or like the puppet pals voldemort would say:
O children… Where are you?!
Ooo, so the shady characters return? That’s pretty cool.
Unfortunately, it seems like Nic’s just misguided and not actually cruel or evil. It appears to me that all he wants is the promise of safety for Dreamland, not actually to rule as a tyrant, but is mistaken for one ’cause he doesn’t have the capacity to lead.
Unlike Arthur, who was a king, who proved himself in battle and in politics many times. Even if some of those times were… risky.
Meh, probably my own imagination running loose. It is 7 ‘o’ clock, so early it’s still cold outside. 😛
cant wait 2 c what happens on friday
Interesting turning point.
Nic was under the impression that Arthur still lives, but this is not explained how.
Maybe he though that the body of Arthur will be preserved and Arthur won’t die, so Nic can rule indefinitely.
Wraiths may have done something about this.
And maybe in the next pages we will see that Nic was manipulated by the Wraiths so as to believe that he is the ruler but “behind” him there are the Wraiths.
It will be an interesting twist to watch Nic side by side with Alex in a possible war against The Nightmare Realm and the redemption of Nic through a heroic death.
Good page, but Nic screaming “EMPTY?” just states the obvious. I think a “How did this happen?” or “where did he go?” seems to suit his psychotic rage. That or, you can leave the panel where Nic looks in horror blank and have the closeup of the tomb have him say “NO!” With the original line, it reduced the tension of the page for me since the wraiths basically reiterate what Nic said with a little more depth.
By the way, I really like Dreamland and I ain’t knocking on it. I just wanted to help since I write and edit for a living. 🙂
My take on Nic’s incredulousness is that he now knows his hold on power is no longer guaranteed. As long as Arthur was lost between worlds, and the sword was close to Arthur’s body to keep him that way, no human king would rise to challenge him.
Now, Alex is challenging him, and even if he kills Alex, the sword will simply go to the next human king, and so on and so on. Eventually, one of the kings might get close enough to him to plant the sword into his chest.
I don’t expect Nic to have many restful nights of sleep from now on.
I’m a little stuck on why Nic is just now realizing Arthur is no longer there. Wouldn’t he have passed as soon as Alex pulled the sword? Or did Nic think that was a fluke but now that the sword is talking to him (and therefore verifying he is the new King) there is a much bigger problem that he thought.
“The King is dead, long live the King.”
C’est le morte d’Arthur.
Yes. Nicodemus assumed this “child” (Alex) took the sword. But didn’t think he was capable of being king.
Welcome, fellow Dreamer!
I actually have to agree with Exxos (both posts :p ), the sides look too thin, even with Nic’s hands on them. It just looks too fragile. Maybe making it ’bout 50% or so thicker would make it look better.
The sarcophagus looks deep enough so that Arthur wouldn’t get hurt by the sword. Remember, it was only “stuck” into the lid and not actually buried into it. So maybe just the tip was pointed out on the underside.
Hey, I just caught up with the story, and must say I can’t wait to read more 😀
Also, I understand that this is released as a set of books.. Is it possible to get them? and where? : )

It should be dawning on Nic that the wraiths have known more than they are letting him know for quite some time now…
Come on, it’s *cough* a dream world! Do all the laws o’ physics ‘haf ‘t be obeyed, ‘Cap’n??
Great comic so far. Please keep up the good work!
I can imagine him saying “You’re just telling me this now?!”
In comparison to his hand I would say it is nearing 3-4inches…Pretty thin but sturdy enough(thanks to it being stone) to hold up the lid.
I’ve been speculating this and thought I might share and see what you all think, since I’ve seen people comment on this before. Perhaps when Nic first met Alex and said that the sword is evil, maybe that was Nics Justification. Since he was friends with Arthur, maybe he blamed arthur’s actions on the sword, kindof like a “he’d never have done it if it hadn’t been for the sword” type mentality. So in essence, he was probably at the tomb stilling mourning Arthur as much as keeping an eye for the sword. Dunno, just a thought.
with Arthur gone… does that free up Dreamland for Daniel to enter??
I got mine from Amazon, though you can buy it from this site and get a bunch of other cook stuff (which I wish I knew about before I bought from Amazon!)
🙂
Welcome, fellow Dreamer!
One minor correction to cndneh’s otherwise accurate statement: I don’t believe the store is back up and running here on the Dreamland site quite yet (or if it is, I can’t find it). As I understand it, it will be most beneficial to Scott to wait until the store is up here, then buy the books here instead of on Amazon.

ah, thanks. i guess my brain gets stuck in “The Sword in the Stone” mode XD.
It is possible as now Daniel is not one of the “next-generation firstborns” (Nicodemus had said back on page 1044 http://thedreamlandchronicles.com/the-dreamland-chronicles/chapter-15/page-1044/ that no next generation firstborns could enter while the previous king reigns)
Now, the question remains – is Daniel considered too old to come to Dreamland? As you may have noticed, the only adults that are allowed in dreamland are the kings. (That’s what Arthur was trying to change with the amulet when things went awry) Since Alex is now king, Dreamland’s adult quota is filled. However, since the “magic” of twins was how Alex got into Dreamland in the first place — maybe this will be the key to getting Daniel inside. Maybe Daniel wearing the sword necklace while sleeping like Alex does perhaps?
Nope…. people can FLY in Dreamland… among other things, if you recall Joey’s friends’ abilities.
The only problem I see with the Dan-wearing-the-Sword thing is that Alex is now recognized as King… the sword traveled to Earth with him as a child, and he was King even then – it’s more than a permit of passage, it’s proof of his Kingship and I doubt that any but Alex can truly use it to travel to Dreamland.
I think dreamland does have an “age limit” like Narnia did.
It’s empty! Inconceivable!
Thanks, both of you.
Reason I asked, was pretty much because I didn’t see any store on site, and that will be the only way for me, ’cause I gotta have the extra stuff : )
Thanks again, I will be patient then.

nic: arthur! *throws open coffin*
arthur: what?! do you mind, i’m sleeping here!
lol XD that would a funny twist.
Wraith 1: “Arthur has passed on.”
Wraith 2: “We warned you to keep him in the refrigerator, but did you listen? Noooooo…”
Arthur: “Brrraaaiiiiiinnnnsss…”
Wraith 3: “Oh never mind, there he is.”
That makes sense. The first thing Nic did after discovering Alex with the sword was to order him to “put it back!”
Nice reference.
Chalk up Artie for the Procrastinator’s Hall of Fame!
Prepare yourself!
Arthur is back! And after 600 years,
HE’S HUNGRY!!!!
Wraith 1: Dammit he got out into the teddy bear village again. Look at him just covered in teddy bear. And he’s tracked it in all over the rug.
Wraith 2: I’d just washed that too!
Wraith 3: Worse than having kids I swear……
Just want to say that I found this comic last week and stayed up way too late several nights devouring the archives. Great story! Really looking forward to seeing where it goes from here!
Welcome, fellow Dreamer!
Just out of curiosity, how did you hear about The Dreamland Chronicles?
(I seem to be welcoming a lot of people lately, and I’m curious, on Scott’s behalf, about what’s working to draw people in … )
does this mean, what i think it means…..
that alex is going to give dan the necklace ,knowing there is no real reason that dan can not come to dreamland now?
since dan is first born… oh damn does this mean.. alex will loose Natasha again?
I don’t think that word means what you think it means.
I wonder. If Arthur has passed on only now, does that mean that there’s a fresh body of King Arthur on Earth? Or was his spirit stuck in Dreamland and his body on Earth decayed to dust long ago?
(Or has his spirit just been released to REJOIN the body, and King Arthur will literally rise again? THAT would be … interesting, to say the least)
what i want to know now is how did the sword necklace come into Alex’s possession? if i recall correctly, Alex’s mom had no idea what it was or where he got it from.
Wonder if that makes Alex the official King. I think it might. Long Live the King!
Also, the new background is AWESOME, it replaced the one of Alex flying at Nic with the sword out, not an easy decision!
Knowing what we do of Nicodemus now – How he didn’t want, originally, to hurl Dreamland into bloodshed and violence, and how he became the way he is trying to keep order and safety for a people who distrust and came to openly despise him – and given how this whole darn mess was partly the wraith’s fault to begin with…
Is it bad that I’m rooting for Nicodemus’ army-destroying rage to be loosed against the bad guys for once? Just ONCE?
Correct spelling would be wraiths’. Whoops.
word of mouth–err, word of net, from a comment on another webcomic.
I saw a banner for this comic at one of the other comics I read – it was either A Distant Soil or The Phoenix Requiem, I don’t actually remember. It’s also entirely possible that Tara at Galaxion suggested it to me a long time ago, but I never got around to checking it out.
The sword necklace is the same thing as the sword. It travels back and forth with the human who claims it. She had never seen it before because it hadn’t been to earth since Arthur got stuck. When he drew the sword and got scared awake the necklace materialized around his neck.
Wraith#1:SILENCE!! King A-..
Wraith#2:SILENCE!! King Arthur has f-
Wraith#3:SILENCE!!King Arthur has finally moved on.
Nicodemus: Sigh…
It never does.
